THE STORY SO FAR .......

Well, the idea started to form in December 2014......We were looking for a place in Saddleworth where we could operate a small coffee roastery through which we could sell coffee beans on the internet. We needed a place  which could be accessed 24/7 and that was close to home. After searching around garages and various industrial buildings we found a small warehouse on a trading estate that was a former mill . It really didn't look very much at all on the inside, just 4 bare walls, and was probably twice the size needed....

So, the concept formed over a few glasses of red wine....the spare space could be given over to a wine warehouse and a licensed wine bar open to the public, with some of the best value offerings from local wine merchants, and a range of great organic wines

We opened after about two and a half months hard work in the cold weather , and if you pop along you'll find at TOAST  a really unique place that grabs your attention and excites all your senses...

But there's a little more to the business...The range of coffees that we roast on site (and sell to the public) has been very carefully sourced . Much of the world's coffee is still grown in poor countries by farmers with smallholdings of around one acre. Typically, these farmers would receive around 1p for the beans that go to make a café lattee or capuccino, and of that only 20% is for him and his family. So we source our beans by paying attention to what the farmers' co-operatives are doing in terms of not just guaranteeing a price, but providing schooling, medical facilities, insurance against crop loss etc....

And then there's the pricing. We don't like the way the multinationals have progressively eased the public's price expectations upwards so that people now expect to pay over £2 for what is really only some flavoured water. So we charge £1 for a coffee,  latte or capuccino. Similar principles for wine...our wines are realistically priced,. So, now you have the opportunity to buy wine from  established wine merchants at supermarket prices, without any gimmicks - no "£5 off" offers, just great wine at sensible prices. There's a  wine bar here - we don't rip you off by selling wine by the glass, we sell by the bottle, there's a small corkage charge (£1) and you can take the rest of the bottle home with you...a much better idea, we think......there's a range of food, tapas nights, buffets, cheeseboards,  - it just depends what we've got on. And of course you can have a party here (it's free to hire TOAST if you can muster more than 28....)

And. of course, we like to encourage local businesses. We stock bread, cheese, cakes, Latvian coilware, chutneys, smokehouse produce and artwork from local artisans and sell on their behalf....it's all part of the mix, and our customers love it !
